Sustainability Director Job Description (sample): Responsible for the direction and coordination of the
environmental sustainability activities of the City. Assist the
Mayor and the Director of the Department of Planning, Preservation
and Sustainability in the creation of short and long-range planning
goals and objectives related to sustainability of all City
operations and advocacy of sustainability to the community. Develop
and supervise the implementation of policies and procedures related
to the sustainability of all City operations and advocacy. Oversee
the creation, implementation, evaluation and revision of the City’s
Climate Protection and Sustainability Plan including coordinating
with the Mayor, Department Directors, the City's Green Committee,
local non-profits and the business community. Requires: Master's
degree or 8-10 years of related experience leading, creating and
implementing initiatives/sustainability programs. Preferable to have
extensive background in: green building techniques; green
purchasing; smart growth and/or sustainable urban design; waste
reduction; municipal contracting; business development.
